With fresh faces to start 2018 and fresh snow
to end it we wanted to share a few of our favorite things from this year to help welcome 2019.

Here’s each of our TOP 5 from 2018…

SARA media director

I went on my first ever 10th Mountain Hut trip in August to the Eismen Hut, and on my second hut trip in November to Vance’s Cabin

I took up mountain biking in 2018. My two favorite places to ride this summer were Eagle, CO and Crested Butte, CO.

I saw some of my all-time favorite bands/artists perform live this year – Portugal. The Man, Alt-J, Dispatch, and Gary Clark Jr .

I took a 2+ week road trip in my ’96 Ford Aerostar van through the Pacific Northwest. Two of my favorite parts of the trip were camping on the beach in La Push, WA and visiting all the breweries in Bend, OR.

I went to the Digital Summit conference in June and gained new knowledge to help our clients stand out. (And I got to see Chelsea Handler speak!).

JILL vice president/director of client services

I rescued a beagle / dachshund / terrier puppy from the Alamosa Humane Society. His name is Huck (or #HuckTheMountainPup).

I moved with my boyfriend to a house in downtown Eagle. Being built in the 1970s, the house had not been remodeled since its original build. We spent the summer ripping out the bathrooms, kitchen and wood paneling throughout the house to bring it up to date. Eagle has turned out to be an amazing community and quickly fell in love—helps that Bonfire Brewing is only a block away.

My wonderlust kicked in, and it was a year full of travel which brought me to some amazing places.
Both for work as well as leisure - a few of the highlights were:

  • Island hoped in Thailand and ate and drank my way through the little islands of Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao

  • Spent a week in New York City at the Fast Company Innovation Festival and saw amazing speakers including: Pharrell Williams, Jennifer Garner, Bumble’s CEO, Spanx CEO, got behind the scenes tours and talks from 3 ad agencies in Brooklyn, LinkedIn, and so much more. It was hands down one of the coolest experiences I have had in my career to date.

  • Traveled a few times to one of my most favorite places, Crested Butte for both meetings with our client the Gunnison Crested Butte Tourism Association, and also to get on my mountain bike, participate in the famous chain-less downhill bike race during Crested Butte Bike Race, and of course snowboard…

  • Maid of Honor celebrating my sister, Paige getting married to my wonderful brother-in-law Michael Francis. Mike is the owner of Payette Brewing in Boise, Idaho and fell in love with my sister when she applied as the marketing manager and graphic designer. Can’t think of a more perfect couple.

  • Spoke at the Mountain Travel Symposium (click to watch my speech) conference at their Ignite session in South Lake Tahoe. Being one of the most challenging things I have done to date, I got on stage right before the keynote speaker Bodie Miller and had a 5-minute rehearsed speech to follow 20 PPT slides that automatically rotated every 15 seconds.

There are a lot of wonderful networking and meet up groups in the valley, however there was nothing specifically for marketing. I wanted to create a group where other marketers in the valley could meet up to discuss various marketing topics, trends, issues and support. Partnering with the Vail Valley Partnership—a Marketing Power Group was created. Over the past year, I have facilitated the Power Group, which is made up of 16 local marketing people representing various businesses, individuals and non-profits.

Whiskey being my go-to… a perfected Old Fashion was needed. Taking my dad’s recipe that he severs every Christmas, and trying my own twist (pun intended) to it, I now have an old fashion that I love to serve to friends (and myself) who come over to my newly remodeled house.
Here you go.

GORDY creative director

In January I purchased a new custom road bike from Firefly that is gravel road ready. I highly recommend these guys if you ever want to build your dream bike.

I think I listened to this song at least 160x this year.

In July we adopted Clem from these incredible ladies.

In October I married my best friend in Girona, Spain and got to experience the best of road riding in the region. For any cycling fans, the Service Course is a must.

And of course, I’m thankful for my new family here at Hill Aevium and the ability to call the Vail Valley my work home.

MARK studio designer

The beginning of 2018 brought me a new family member. My new nephew Benjamin was born. So I found a baby gift.

FINALLY got to see David Byrne in concert and at Red Rocks of all places! His new album is so worth checking out!

Discovered I have a thirst for sour beers thanks to the offerings at Colorado's own Crooked Stave Brewery. Specifically The Nightmare on Brett.

My wife and I escaped the winter cold for the warm beaches of Aruba. I highly recommend hiking to the Natural Pool for a swim if you are ever down there.

Joining the creative team at Hill Aevium and starting a new adventure working for a company located in Edwards, CO which is just down the street from my favorite run.

BECKY finance manager

I took a 2-week road trip to Yellowstone, and through British Columbia with my husband in advance of Vail Resorts adding Resorts of the Canadian Rockies to their coterie of Epic Resorts.  I learned that we WILL survive retirement, and won’t tire of each others’ company.

Robert Plant & the Sensational Space Shifters did not disappoint, neither did the Jerry Garcia Birthday Band at our own Ford Amphitheatre here in Vail.  Always grateful to live here where other people come vacation!

And then there was the New York Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony and the Vail Valley Dance Festival

It is always an inspiration to go up to the top of Vail mountain; this year we hiked up for worship, Ziplining down Game Creek Bowl with family and horseback riding at Piney River Ranch!

What natural wonders we have just a few hours away!  Was reminded of that when I took my first mountain bike ride in many years at Dead Horse Point outside of Moab, Utah!  Felt like a champ… an old champ yes, but completed the route virtually unscathed!

2018 started off with the most epic ski trip to Whistler Blackcomb, my new favorite mountain!

In the spring I experienced my first ever snowmobile ride with Nova Guides. So much fun!

I spent the summer camping, rafting, hiking and climbing. My favorite was rafting from the office in Edwards, CO all the way to Eagle, CO!

This fall I experienced my first Red Rocks show. It was INSANE! My friend grew up with the artist so we were personally invited! Gud Vibrations was one of the highlights.

I finally tried out a meal delivery service, Blue Apron, and loved it! I highly recommend trying the Florentine Roast Pork & Salsa Verde with Sautéed Vegetables

LINDA president

New faces and people excelling at Hill Aevium: Gordy Hirsch Creative Director Extraordinaire joined our ranks. Jill Coyle was promoted to Vice President & Director of Client Services. Michal Bednarczyk joined us as Production Coordinator and technical guru. And, we launched a new website…A little more edgy and reflective of our lifestyle in the mountains.

Have you ever heard of, or had a chance to attend the Fast Company Innovation Festival?  If not check it out and it’s a must-go! Jill and I flew to NYC to attend and it was mind-expanding. Plus I got to meet Trigger (Roy Rogers horse) in Jill’s Uncles Manhattan apartment. Yes it’s really Trigger.

Best snow day 2018 – December 8 – started in Lionshead, ended up on Blue Ox half way across the mountain and made it back to the car in under 3 hours for the $10 fee!  Sunny bluebird day and early POW.

Best trip in 2018 – Cayman Islands, family time, great diving, great food, togethering.

Fun single project – working to promote and launch the Knapp Ranch book, Living Beneath the Colorado Peaks by Bud and Betsy Knapp. And giving that book to Jennifer Garner at the Innovation Festival!
